This Gives a clear picture of some players being a level above the others in terms of both Average and Strike Rate. However it's still not truly fair to look at this directly. Because the Average and Strike Rate Differential for openers is visibly less as compared to the Middle order batsmen. So a more accurate way of judging them would be sorting them by the Position they predominantly batted in.
So I divided the list into No 1-2, No 3 and No 4-7. A happy coincidence that all the three lists have exactly 10 Batsmen each.

Talking about the Openers, They have a slightly less Average and Strike Rate differential as they have less notouts and generally take time to settle and therefore score at a lower Strike Rate than the Rest of the Team. But Sachin Tendulkar is just on another level. Considering the team he played in he had a considerably Better Average and Strike Rate as compared to his Teammates. David Warner is also underrated. He has been overshadowed because of Rohit Sharma and Hashim Amla but definitely a great opener. Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes didn't really cared about scoring quick. Probably because they had a beast to follow them (More about him later), but were pretty consistent. Shikhar Dhawan and Quinton de Kock are the Modern Batsmen. They are showing the Trend that Openers are not conservative at the Top anymore and are sacrifising a little bit of consistency for quick scoring. A trend started by Jayasuriya, Sehwag and Gilchrist. Matthew Hayden is a weird one. He just played in too good a team to perform significantly better than them.
N0 3 is the most vital position in the Team generally. They generally are the most significant scorers so a lesser Strike Rate Differential shouldn't be criticized that highly. That being said Brian Lara, Dean Jones and Virat Kohli scored fairly quickly with a great average differential too. Brian Lara and Dean Jones are pretty underrated as ODI Batsmen. Statistically speaking they did significantly better than their team mates. Kumar Sangakkara also had better Average and Strike Rate differentials than their teammates. Ricky Ponting despite having a phenomenal career doesn't has as impressive differentials as some other greats. He just had a damn great team. The clique about Jacques Kallis is true. He did score at a lesser rate but was fairly consistent, Joe Root probably plays in the ideal Batting Lineup. He has a set defined role of scoring runs without worrying about the Scoring Rate and he does that perfectly. Kane Williamson's team heavily depends on him for scoring runs and he does that very well. Du Plessis and Smith has decent numbers too.
No 4-7 does nopt have a set defined rule and need to be adaptable according to team's need. Need to Build Partnerships some day, need to score quickly the other. Michael Bevan has the Best Average Differential. He was the OG Finisher and there's a reason why people rate him very highly. Sir Viv Richards has the best average Strike Rate differential and it's fucking filthy!!!. To put into context if he batted in today's English Lineup he would strike at 127!!!. He Really is the Goat. Ab de Villiers's is 2nd on both the Avg and SR Differentials. He has a better Avg Differential than Virat Kohli while having an unbelievable SR Differential. Ideal No 4-5 for any team. Kevin Pietersen is really underrated as a ODI Batsman. He has a phenomenal record compared to his teammates. Him being in all time XIs is not a bad proposition. Michael Clarke just like his teammates suffers from playing in a great team. Mike Hussey and MS Dhoni managed very impressive numbers despite playing in good batting lineups. Javed Miandad was also very consistent and scoring rate was also decent. Taylor and Mathews also have good numbers and they value Consistency over scoring quickly.
These are my thoughts. You can share your views on what you found impressive or not about the comparison. At the end of the day it's only a statistical comparison.
Also if anyone was wondering here is the player's performance in the World Cups(Restricted to vs Top 8 Teams only)

Evaluating ODI Batsmen Using Relative Strike Rates

Often any kind of discussion or comparison in sport automatically devolves into the "you can't compare different eras!" conclusion, which in limited overs cricket is probably even more prominent than elsewhere - the climate for a batsman today post-IPL, post-white ball swing, with huge bats and ramp shots and general pandemonium, would be impossible for a batsman in the 70s, 80s, or even the early part of this century to imagine. And the area where these differences are most highlighted is in strike rates, which simply put have risen exponentially. A cursory look at the stats will make you think all batsmen of the past were glorified Boycotts, nudging and prodding without any real flair or power. But that would be stupid. A possible workaround is instead of looking at the raw strike rates, to look at a batsman's strike rate in the context of their contemporaries.
Doing that is easy - You take the batsman's strike rate, you take the overall strike rate over the course of this batsman's career, and you divide the first number by the second. A figure greater than 1 implies they scored more freely than "expected", while a figure less than 1 implies they scored more restrictively than expected. The further away from 1 the more remarkable the strike rate, either positively or negatively.
For convenience and to make things a bit cleaner and slightly less nitpicky, I define a batsman's career as follows:
1 January "first year batting" - 31 December "final year batting"
Furthermore, since the primary motivation of this is for comparisons in all time XIs and such, I've decided to break things up into 3 roles: Openers, 3-4, 5-7. The basis of these designations came from glancing at the overall strike rate trends per individual batting position, but I admit they're crude and maybe even arbitrary. I'll also only consider a batsman's stats in their primary role, eg Tendulkar played all over the place initially but played the best and most significant part of his career as an opener, so only those stats are counted when comparing openers. A batsman can still be considered in more than one role, but the numbers will be accurately divided. The strike rates are of course also calculated according to each role, which helpfully excludes useless tailender data and allows us to see how a batsman plays in relation to the general demands of their position. To filter more, only those who've scored at least 1000 runs in their role are looked at.
To get an intuitive feel for a batsman's overall "effectiveness", I've taken a geometric mean of their batting average (A) and their relative strike rate (RS), ie sqrt(A*RS). Essentially with this metric, below 6 represents a fairly ineffective batsman, 6-7 a good to great batsman, 7-8 a world class batsman, and 8+ a truly special batsman.
The batsmen I've done this for are a mix of the top run scorers, and people who for some reason I thought this would be interesting. Sorting is done in order of the relative strike rate, but not everyone is included so expect to see some big gaps. I've looked at more people in the openers category to show a broad range of numbers representing different eras, and because it's what I looked at first and I got lazier afterwards.

Conclusions:
  • Before doing this, I expected AB, Viv, and Kohli to come out most impressively, and that's pretty much exactly what's happened. Viv's numbers are just astounding, the way he scored so much more prolifically and so much more freely than his peers borders on incomprehensible.
  • I'm realising I've really romanticised Jayawardene as a one day player in my head, despite his numbers being really unremarkable. Might not even qualify for an all time Sri Lanka ODI team.
  • Kallis looks like the most 'of his time' player as far as scoring rate is concerned.
  • I've got my issues with Faf as a test player, but we shouldn't forget just how incredible he is in white ball cricket, the numbers make him one of the absolute best ODI batsman of all time. Eoin Morgan similarly seems to get pigeonholed as some kind of specialist captain recently, but his batting is up there amongst the greats.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul 2845 40.64 73.4 76.08 0.9648 6.2617
Conclusions:
  • Afridi stands out here with by far the highest relative strike rate of any player in any role. Maybe if he were a few years younger, and subsequently his pretend age also a few years younger, while also not being as much of a prick, he could have been a more appreciated cricketer.
  • For current players, no surprise to see Buttler and Maxwell so high.
  • Not a huge sample size, but AB's numbers here are insane.
  • Andrew Symonds was too good a cricketer in all formats to have faded out the way he did.
So with that in mind, and also using some personal judgement, here's my rough attempt at an all time ODI top 7, not considering bowling and the balance of the side:
Jonny Bairstow (Tendulkar if you have a sample size issue)
Rohit Sharma
Virat Kohli
Viv Richards
AB de Villiers
Jos Buttler (wk)
Michael Bevan (Ben Stokes/Andrew Symonds if you want a more enthusiastic allrounder)
Problems:
  • The central assumption of relative strike rate is that scoring faster is desirable for all batsmen of all eras, which is a simplistic way of looking at things. With ODI sides for a long time just being copies of test sides, there wasn't necessarily that onus to play more aggressively, it's an issue of capability but also an issue of intention. So even with this adjustment older players are disadvantaged.
  • I've also not made any adjustments to averages over time, I've assumed that any batsman goes out with the intention of scoring as much as possible. However as we all know team scores have risen and so obviously individual scores have risen, batsmen now score more than their predecessors. So perhaps an adjustment is needed there.
  • The geometric mean method is very basic, unsophisticated. It's good for basic intuition, but still I think it's heavily biased towards bigger averages, so it depends in part on how each of us value one day batsmen. Would you rather have a Shai Hope or a Virender Sehwag? A Chanderpaul or a Maxwell?
  • My system also disadvantages players who are systematically promoted up the order in certain match situations, which is quite a frequent occurrence these days. Jos Buttler for instance has some of his best, most destructive numbers when playing in the top 4, yet those aren't counted.
  • The usual "big game" issue - none of this tells us about performances in world cup knockouts, home and away, against the biggest rivals, in front of the biggest crowds...
  • The ODI landscape has changed a lot through time, does the emergence of associate and other weaker nations distort things? Or is a hungry Afghanistan side in 2019 a bigger challenge than a bored test leftover England side in 1980? And not necessarily just when these weaker teams are opponents, more in how their results against each other would impact the era strike rates.
  • As I said before the 1-2/3-4/5-7 designations are far from perfect. In fact looking at the numbers, I found that while openers, 3-4, and 6-7 can be pretty much grouped together at least in the modern era, 5 stands out. But talking about a specialist number 5 still feels very odd to me, and I thought grouping it made more sense.
  • Another unaccounted for issue is the strength of a batsman's team. For instance it's easy to look at Tamim Iqbal's numbers and call him a poor opener, but he's required to put a higher price on his wicket than say Jason Roy is.
  • Players with stop-start career paths are given an unfair advantage. For instance someone who plays a random one off ODI in 2005 as a teenager, but then returns to play consistently from 2015-2020 will have their career calculated as 2005-2020 instead of 2015-2020, which will artificially inflate their relative strike rate.

Steve Smith is a modern great. Let's discuss.

I am English and I think it's sad how Steve Smith will be remembered for the sandpaper incident and not his incredible batting and commitment. His innings of 144 today was one of greatest innings I have seen in the last few years. His unorthodox style may be frowned upon by some coaches but you can't deny his technique is effective. Watching him get to 30 runs today you could tell he was getting a century, he was so comfortable at the crease. I will remind you that Smith also has the second highest ICC test batting rating ever. Second to Don Bradman. Meaning he, at some point, was more impactful than the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Brian Lara, Ricky Pointing and Alastair Cook. The list goes on

Why the world needs an IPL game.

IPL is the richest and biggest cricket league in whole wide world, it has become a well-established brand after more than a decade long journey since its inception in 2008, the powers that be have done everything they could to promote and further increase the popularity of their golden goose but quite bafflingly during all that time there's not been a single video game based upon it.
Video games are an integral part of today's pop culture & home entertainment. Almost all the popular sports leagues (MLB, NHL, NBA, NFL etc) have their annual title releases, it is surprising that a $6.7 billion league hasn't even thought of tapping into that territory yet. Yes the cricket gaming community isn't as big and piracy is a big issue but the success of Don Bradman/Ashes games has shown a significant surge, the landscape is much different than it was a decade ago.
Regarding the piracy, it has always been an issue which has plagued the gaming scene ever since day one. The restrictions like lack of updates and online gameplay in pirated versions combined with more people owning gaming consoles in subcontinent along with services like Steam starting out there has had a positive effect on the business of games.
Besides, you never know unless you test the waters and it's high time for that. A wealthy brand like IPL can easily afford to do that with just a minuscule part of their vast financial resources, it would be like using a grain of salt out of a whole ocean full of it.
Cricket world has changed a lot, the influx of money in it due to commercial elements and a large viewerbase is an auspicious omen to go ahead with this venture, if it's a failure there won't be much to lose but if it's a success, it'll do wonders for the IPL and the game of cricket itself as games are considered a fantastic medium to bring new fans to the sport.
By not benefitting from this lucrative investment opportunity, it is costing the league organizers more than it'll if they decide to invest.
Who should make it?
EA used to make cricket games in past and their last game Cricket 07 is still popular among masses, however they've gained a reputation of being a company with never-ending greed, so other than the disapproval of fans, it's highly unlikely they would get onboard unless mountains of cash are promised, so they are not an option.
EA's ouster leaves us with Codemasters and BigAnt Studios, the only two other developers/publishers with cricket gaming experience. Codemasters have the honour of making the most beloved cricket game ever (Brian Lara/Shane Warne Cricket 99), which has a very special place in hearts of cricket lovers and the successful later entries in the series. While BigAnt Studios pride themselves on their gloabbly acclaimed games Don Bradman 14 & 17/Ashes/Cricket 19.
While BigAnt Studios' efforts are definitely worth commendation as they've done a spectacular job but they are a small studio with limited resources, which is noticeable in their developed projects, their cricket gaming experience (6 years) in comparison with Codemasters' (15 years) is also lacking. It would be unwise to give them an assignment of the scale with which only a studio as big and experienced like Codemasters can do justice.
Codemasters are also a subsidiary of Reliance Entertainment Pvt Ltd, India (owned by Mumbai Indians' owners) which makes this a perfect match. During their gaming days, Codemasters were known for being innovative and always way ahead of their time, from the revolutionary action cam to usage of hawkeye, official bats, balls and kitbags to online gaming, changes in pitch as the play progress and realistic broadcast style gameplay, they were the first ones to incorporate advanced elements in their titles and to think out of the box.
There is no better contender at the moment to develop and publish an IPL game other than Codemasters. An IPL video game for PC and consoles has to be made as beside being the utmost desire of fans, it is an opportunity too valuable to let slip away.
